Lake Manchester Dam
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Lake Manchester Dam is located approximately 25kms west of Brisbane. The dam structure was 160m long and 38m high. This dam had a long unlined free-overflow spillway. It had a full storage capacity of 26 000 megalitres and a catchment area of 74km squared.
It is an un-gated dam, meaning that when it reaches 100 per cent capacity, water flows over the spillway and safely out of the dam.
The Challenge
This project by Brisbane Water covered the stabilisation of the dam wall and the upgrading of the spillway. The updgrading of the spillway meets the current Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) guidelines and Industry State of Practice Standards
The Solution
Arrow Concrete Cutting provided contracted services to McConnel Dowell Constructors during the dam upgrade project.
- Concrete tower dismantled, lifted and removed.
- Precise customised cuts through the concrete wall for the spillway.
- Flange removal
